All guns are members of the Plains Shoot, which is a walk-up or rough shooting. It is very informal and designed to attract all military ranks and civilians, particularly from Warminster Garrison.

Plains guns meet somewhere on the western side of Salisbury Plain every Saturday of the shooting season.  They usually walk some 5-8 km and take in the many wooded copses and thick undergrowth.
Bags vary significantly from a few pigeon to 15 or so birds - partridge, pheasant, pigeon and woodcock.  With regards to ground game, we only shoot rabbits.

Plains shooting is very good value - an annual subscription with no charge for members' guests in full time education.  Membership includes BASC insurance and offers 18 shooting days per year, each day for less than the price of a beer!  There is a daily charge for guests and non-members.

Plains shooting is ideal for those that just want to get out, have some good exercise and have some shooting sport.  Or they want to focus on training a dog without worrying about upsetting other guns on a formal shoot.

As long as you are a shoot Member, you just turn up to shoot, which is ideal if the wife's shopping trip has just been cancelled.  And you can bring a guest or two.
